The Lonely Path

The pouring rain falls down on me,
The lightning blinds my eyes.
As I walk the lonely path of life,
From the sunset to it’s rise.

I tread the way past all the faces,
I tread on by their glares.
Never alone, but always alone,
With only the blank eyed stares.

I sing a song of gaiety,
And dance with all my breath,
For the song I sing is a joyous ode,
To Charon, his lord of death.

He walked by me from the first,
I always hear his call,
A seductive whisper, always there,
Waiting ‘til I fall.

So on the rugged path I walk,
In the storm of silent screams.
So lonely always, still I stand,
On the road of broken dreams.

There, on the horizon,
A faint clear light.
Perhaps another, alone like me,
Lost in the deepest black of night.

Walking together, the lonely path,
With Charon as our guide.
Singing joyous hymns to him,
Until the day we die.
